You don't need "track compounds", get some good street tire first (falken azenis, hankook rs2s). Once you learn to drive fast on those, then switch over to dot-r compound. There is a learning curve on tires.

For serious, especially for an autocross.

Learn on the shittiest possible tires. Get a 195/60/14 that will hold air and has decent tread. I'm thankful for running through 6 sets of shitbag 195/65/14's before having a relatively sticky tire. Sticky tires will simply cover up mistakes. Learn how to drive the car; then make changes!

Not only will they cover up mistakes, but once you go PAST the point of mistake, you won't save it.

What the fuck? Thanks for shitting on my otherwise nice thread.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm sure I did a shitload wrong, I need to review the video's of my runs to pinpoint the issues. As I said, this is the first autocross I've run in my e30.

+1 on the shitty tire mod. Easiest way to learn to go faster. You won't beat your friends now, but you will stomp them later.

Well, I've got shit tires, I could have shittier, but I don't have my 14in basketweaves anymore. But I'm sure these will do. I've been looking for an excuse to burn them up so I can use my stack of decent michelins I have sitting in my garage.

I have pictures of my old ES getting on 3 wheels with 300,000 miles and stock everything. Only mod was Falken Azenis tires. They make a world of difference. If you can, pick up a set of bottlecaps, and get some decent tires put on them, and then hit up the AutoX again.
