Yea the condenser, fan and lines are all collecting dust in a box as well.

I forgot about that; good insight.

i run in STU with the entire ps and ac systems removed except the evaporator, only because i didnt wanna mess around under the dash.

i would rather run without the ps than with it. you can feel what the car is doing way better.

Why are you in STU? Tires?

The only difference from STU and STX is engine displacement and maximum tire width.

STU follows the STX rule set, but raises the displacement limit for
otherwise STX-legal vehicles to 3.1 liters
          for forced induction and to
unlimited dsplacement for natural aspiration. Restrictions on wheel
width are lifted and the maximum tire width is increased to 275 for
FWD or RWD vehicles (but remains at 245 for AWD vehicles). Other
than these limited exceptions, the STX ruleset as described in 14.12
          applies.

I agree. I have no problems at all with no PS even on slow tight courses.

There's not really a reason for an e30 to run in STU...

The only reason I run in STX is because of the LSD. I don't run PS because I'm on all season tires and you can hardly feel them break away with the PS.

Once you guys get serious about tires, you'll find that PS is your friend. 275s require serious effort to turn without it.

The way SCCA writes the rules is that if it doesn't say you can do something explicity, you can't. It doesn't explicity say you can remove the PS or belt. I know you can't change to the euro manual rack, which is really the only right way to do it.

As for ST allowing removal of the AC, I didn't realize that since I've been in DSP and past ST legal since before the ST classes existed. I stand corrected.

True. Even 225 r-comps can fight with you to the point where it can effect your driving.

I went without power steering in both my e30's for 2 years or so, one with a 3.0 turn rack, and after the "cool factor" wore off, I realized there is no benefit, and it was slowing me down on the track & autox, and was just plain tiresome on the street.

i run in stu cause im new to auto-x so it makes me feel more competitive. im sure when i get more experience i will start running in stx, which i should be in anyway since i have coilovers, but for the first few events im running in stu.

Tires are BY far more important than anything else. Then shocks, then suspension....Oh yeah and Quality seat time.
Not sure if I agree on your order of importance...:-)

Really? Aside from being a pain in the grid, I cannot image much difference on course, especially with over -3.5 deg camber. <shrug>
