    Turbo M42 at PIR

We had a challenging weekend. It started when we blew a head gasket after pulling on to the track for the first practice session on Saturday.

Our welding guy had done some work on our exhaust manifold. He ended up taking some stuff apart to get the welding done. We checked his work but missed the fact that he hooked the wastegate up wrong.

We managed to replace the head gasket in about 5 hours in time to make the Saturday race.

This is video of the Sunday race.

          Thanks for the feedback.

          It was a fun weekend.

Like I said, we put the car on the track on Sat for the first practice session (8:20am) and we blew the head gasket. Its a long story but someone swapped the hoses on the waste gate. We think it was our welder. At 9:45am we started the head gasket job. We completed the job in time for the 3:30pm race.

          Check out this video (short)

Haha you can see me in T2!

You need to ditch that TiaL pile of junk and get some bosch diverter valves. Even better get the billet versions.

Im just curious. How much boost and how much hoorsepower are you guys getting out of that m42? (i want to drop one in a 2002)

About 15lbs of boost and about 300hp to the wheels using a Dyno Dynamics. We use the Dyno Dynamics since it offers steady state tuning. The numbers you get from that kind of dyno are more conservative than a Dynojet.

Nice work on the quick HG swap. It's awesome that you had a spare!

I'm looking forward to checking out the video when I get home.

So did the head not warp at all when the gasket blew? It seems like every time someone blows a gasket on a turbo M20 the head needs to be sent to the shop to be resurfaced.

No, since the blown head gasket was due to a sudden over boost instead of a heat issue there was no damage to the head.

                            We agree.

We do however need to get a DynoJet hp rating so that we can run some NASA GTS events next year. They run a hp to weight ratio to class cars.

In the nicest way possible, why are you guys so slow? I mean you guys are posting slower lap times than the majority of the JP cars with their 200hp of fury. I'm guessing a big part of it is driver inexperience but what's the rest? Setup? The car seems to drive 'heavy', what's its current weight?

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
