As a driver, I need more seat time. Some of these guys have been club racing for years. I know with practice I will get there. Due to the issues on Saturday we ran the fewest number of laps compared to all the other drivers.

The car weighs about 2400 lbs.

The setup is good, it could be better. I know our setup will get better with time. We were making setup changes right up to the race on Sunday. I basically started the race with a setup I hadn't driven all weekend. It turned out the change we made was helpful. It's always better to get your setup changes figured out before qualifying (obviously).

We have been running on Dot-R's. We expect to be a little faster on slicks. All the cars in our class run on slicks.

Another challenge is making the hp drivable. The way the power comes on was a challenge in Phoenix. I had to short shift to 4th between turn 3 and turn 5 due to traction issues. We have a couple ideas on how to improve that and will take those measures during the off season.

As far as we know, this is the only Turbo M42 racing in BMWCCA. We can't lean over the person sitting next to us to get the answers... its all trial and error for us.

If slicks would give us 2 seconds a lap at Phoenix (which is what one of the club racers told us), we would have been running around 7th overall based on Sunday's race lap times. We would have been fighting for the 3rd position in class.

Although our car and driver aren't there yet, as of 10/10/08 we are 10th in points nationally out of 50 cars that have run this year in D-Mod.

No such thing as a 200hp JP car either...

What are you guys putting down, if you don't mind sharing? And what is your max RPM?

I was speaking specifically of e30 M3 JP cars which usually arent putting down more than 210hp and weigh ~2400lbs. Comparing that to the 300rwhp/325rwtq (estimated DJ #s) these guys are putting down, it should be no contest.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

The emphasis so far has been on proving the car reliable, completing Paul's rookie requirements, and practicing our race craft. There are 3 things we're working on to make us faster: seat time, setup, and tires.

We don't have any Dynojet numbers but your estimates don't seem out of bounds (closer to 280 on a DynoDynamics at the race level boost settings). The head would benefit from improved airflow as we redline around 7K. Peak HP and torque are about the same but at very different places. Peak torque comes on around 4K, peak HP around 5.5K
