There's no racket in spec'ing specific parts. That's what spec racing is all about. It evens out the cars, and lets driver skill (in theory) determine the winner. Also, by spec'ing certain components, the series can work a sponsor deal with the manufacture of the spec'd part, allowing the drivers to get a discount when purchasing the spec parts.
Also, don't read a 3 year old rule book for a current car build. Rule books tend to get some form of updates every off season. Racers find loopholes, rule changes plug them back up. :-)
I was under the impression that IE springs were H&R but I'm not sure.
Wasn't so much dissing spec e30 by saying what a racket as just bitching.
Oh... you've got lots of company when it comes to bitching about the rules. There have been some rule changes over the last 2 seasons that have those of us who built a car a few years ago pretty bent out of shape. The rules have been "tweaked" a bit to address loop holes and gray areas. If you're building now, it should be pretty stable set of rules.
H&R's have been the spec'd spring from day 1.
And other than free shipping from a few sponsor vendors... there no real discounts on parts
Having all the cars as equal as possible makes for great racing. If you're looking at building a SE30... you're in for a real treat when you get out there.
