Yeah, my 318is is up in STX because of the factory diff. It'd be very nice if someone made an appeal to change the rule or exempt the e30 from it, but I'm too lazy to do it myself. Turns out an e30 can be very competitive in STX anyway.Comment

*edit SCCA Solo 2009 rules:*
12.4 STANDARD PART
An item of standard or optional equipment that could have been
ordered with the car, installed on the factory production line, and
delivered through a dealer in the United States. Port-installed options
provided by the factory are considered to be the same as
those installed on the factory production line. Dealer-installed options
or deletions (except as required by factory directives), no matter
how common or what their origin, are not included in this definition.
This definition does not allow the updating or backdating of parts.
K. Limited Slip Differentials
ST, STS: No limited slip differentials are permitted except for
factory standard viscous coupler type units.
(basically allowing a specific FWD mazda to run in ST, as it came with a viscous LSD)
Stock Class:
L. Limited-slip differential, transmission and differential ratios, clutch
mechanisms and carburetion, fuel injection or supercharger induction
systems must be standard as herein defined.
So in Stock he should be able to install a factory limited slip as it could be optioned on the model he has (M20 engine), but it would require the car to be an iX or a clone thereof to do so is ST/STS.Last edited by whiltebeitel; 03-30-2009, 04:39 PM.'89 325i track sloot

right, I've seen the rules. However, my point is the SCCA doesn't consider the 325i/ix to be seperate models as far as I can tell. the AWD (or parts of it) can easily be considered a "factory installed option."Comment

You're free to try, but I wouldn't. It seems pretty clear that if the car could not be ordered with a iX LSD (and it couldn't if it wasn't an iX) in the States, then it's not allowable. If you ran it in ST, you'd have to fight protests from any serious guy that caught wind of it.
He's running GS anyway, so a LSD in a factory-available ratio for the eta would be perfectly fine.'89 325i track sloot

There were tons of optional ratios availible in Europe in standard medium case differentials (ie. for the E30). I'm almost positive that a 3.91 was availible, although it would have been a clutch diff and not a viscous diff. I'm not into auto-x for serious competition, so my take on bending rules might reflect that.. sorry if this post isnt helpful.Comment
