88 325 and wheelspin; lsd option?

I just started autoxing my '88 325 and am having problems with wheelspin. Car is bone stock at the moment. I'm trying to find out if an '88 325 (super-eta) sedan ever came with lsd. If so, is there any documentation available? I run with scca and am an experienced autocrosser. Any help will be appreciated.

look under your car to see if its an LSD. Get better tires.

I've already checked the diff. It's not lsd. Stickier tire's won't resolve the problem as the wheel slip is caused by weight unloading on the inside rear tire in a turn. A stickier tire causes more roll therefore more unloading.

what i think hes asking is if any 4 door 325 ever came with a LSD as a factory option cause im guessing he wants to put an OEM one on, unfortunately i dont know but im sure someone else could help out

You could order any e30 with an LSD from the factory. For example, my '87 325 has one that has been on it since birth:



Most LSD units you find for sale for e30's are OEM. The few aftermarket-produced units available are usually racing units meant for full-on track use. Also, the differentials on sedans and coupes are all the same. They have different ratios; 325e and related cars have either 2.79 or 2.93 from the factory, and 325i cars usually have 3.73 (although this can be 3.92 for automatics). Late 318i cars have 4.10 ratio diffs, in small-case flavor, IIRC.

I swapped a 2.79 LSD into my 88 325. Came from an 86 325e. Not the quickest, but it's fine for me.

Automatic 325i came with 4.10, not 3.92

Thanks, my question was if it could be ordered with the lsd because SCCA rules only allow me to install the lsd if it actually ever came from the factory in that configuration.

Note that it is not a viscous-type LSD, so it's not legal for STS if your car qualifies otherwise.
