Split up Parts FS forum

Just a quick observation. The FS forum has over 1600 threads, more than general discussion. Also, threads are being added/bumped so frequently that an ad falls three pages behind in one day.

Should we split it up into something like...

Suspension
Drivetrain
Gen parts and misc (for part-outs)
exterior

etc?

That would be cool. But what you kinda touched on with the "Gen parts and misc" is that a lot of people are selling multiple, different things at one time and having to make separate threads and keep track of each might get a little tedious. I dunno...

right. So, with the extra effort needed on the seller's part to create multiple threads, the benefits to the buyers far outweigh that, in that the buyer doesn't have to sift through a thread full of kick panels, window switches, sun visors, and center consoles to look for the H&R springs he wants.

From a seller standpoint, I would rather make two or three threads selling my crap in different subforums, that way I would get much more exposure to people looking more specifically at the threads for what they want to buy.

From a buyer standpoint, I hate searching for something in particular, and getting search results buried in massive threads like "I am parting out 5346 E30s every day! I have everything you need! You only have to shred the skin off of your index finger scrolling and clicking your way through my thread to find it though!"

I like the idea of it being split up, but nothing too crazy. Wheels & Suspension, Drivetrain, Body (including lighting etc)

well we already have a wheels FS section. We just need to split up the Parts FS subforum further. Suspension is def one good category, drivetrain another.

I agree. A lot of other forums are split up in this manner.

Yeah we def need a non-subaru stuff section. I am tired of seeing the FS forum here infested with those dang threads.

I like the idea. There have been times i saw something i wanted and went back later and not being able to find it.

How are those subsections confusing? How is it hard to split all parts for sale into either suspension, drivetrain, full part-outs, interior, exterior, and other?

I disagree with only 2 sub sections. Almost every other forum I use has multiple sub sections, and I have never felt it was overwhelming or too confusing.

Well, if people think this is a good idea (including the mods/James C), we ought to come up with some subsection headings.

We already have a wheels/tires for sale. And we can still keep the wanted section.

^^ I agree. Do we even need to add a "misc fs" section to that? Is there an E30 part that doesn't fall under those categories?

Also, "motor/trans" should be amended to "drivetrain" to include driveshafts, diffs, axles, and related bits.

This is a great idea. This site has such a huge amount of FS items, but its always impossible to search though every thread to find things you want.

That list is pretty standard on most forums. I think it's a great start.
