Also, "motor/trans" should be amended to "drivetrain" to include driveshafts, diffs, axles, and related bits.
I agree. Drivetrain would encompass the gambit of items under the car that don't fall under suspension and brakes.

If we wanted to have a Non automotive section for people hocking ipods and playstations it may be useful.

Maybe one FS thread per user. That user can edit it as per changes in inventory, etc. Shit, who deals in thread replies anyways? Just use PM and when shit is sold, remove it.

Cuts down on multiple threads, bumping and shit talking.

A simple search would yield the threads with the particular part one is looking for.

One thread per user defeats the whole benefit of splitting up the Parts FS forum into subsections. A user has to make multiple threads if he is selling parts in multiple subsections.

Also: posting in a FS thread is helpful if many people have the same question. It prevents the seller from answering one question many times and clogging the PM folder.

If a seller wants to have an effective thread, it is up to the seller to update the first post continuously as events warrant. Further posts from other members can give helpful insight to the FS thread, such as whether the OP is a good stand-up guy, or a slimebag, etc. A lot of that stuff is pretty helpful.

This still doesn't address the confusion and hassle to sort through endless FS threads looking for specific parts. I could open up 15 different "parts for sale" threads and never find someone selling the springs or brake lines I am looking for. Which causes unnecessary WTB threads.

I know there is a search function but that isn't always as encompassing and lots of people sell 20+ items at a time and don't update that single thread when something is sold.

Having multiple sections where a seller only has 2 to 3 items in say the "suspension/brakes" area may make it easier for the seller to keep it updated.

I could be way off base. But I do find the separation very helpful.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of classifieds sub sections (beyond what we have). If it went to that, I'd likely end up not browsing them like I do now, and only going to them when I'm looking for a specific part. It's just too much of a hassle to read through 4 or 5 forums instead of one. And when I do have to go to a specific subforum to find a part, it would be more of a hassle, because some parts carry over between subforums, so you end up searching through a bunch anyway.

For instance, people putting rear axles in the enigne/drivetrain forum, or the suspension forum. Or people putting sunroof parts in exterior, or interior. You may search one forum, while the part you need is in another forum.

Just the opinion from someone who has been buying and selling thousands of dollars worth of parts a year since '04 on this forum...

^^ huh, interesting perspective. I guess I have never visited the parts FS forum just to "browse" and see what I wanted to buy that day.

I guess this thread was inspired by my recent search for springs. I searched for "H&R Race", and a couple threads came up which had the term in the thread subject which was helpful, but many more threads of people just selling off tons of random stuff that I had to dig through for the springs.

If the subforums are few in number and general in subject, it can't be too bad browsing four or five subforums just to window shop. Because when you go window shopping, you have got to have an idea of what you are looking for, in general, i.e. if you are in an "interior mood" or "suspension mood" that day.

The problem here is there are very few parts which can cross into different sub forums, compared the the multitude of parts which fit specifically into a very simple sub forum category. I would say that there would be far more benefit than hindrance from a couple of items which can cross over.

I understand the "window shopping" mentality, but as stated by iamcreepingdeath, If I am looking to change something on my car, or just watched a video that inspires me, it's usually something that can be categorized. So after watching a video of an E30 at the nurburg I may want to get a new set of wheels, enhance my suspension, or find the same spoiler that was on the car. All three of which can be easily found in a specific category, instead of sifting through three pages of window switches and vinyl comfort seats.

I like the idea of the split up but I think it can go a bit overboard which I've seen on other forums.

One FS section I'd like to see split is wheels. Now that the scene is flooded with 5x120 conversions, several threads don't list the bolt pattern in the title. I then click in, go wow I want those, and then find out they are 5x120. It'd be nice to know I'm only looking at a thread with 4x100s.

I'm not, I have zero issues with how the FS sections work. If people are too lazy to bump the threads then the search function fixes that.

You have over 8k posts, I am sure you know how to use the search function...lol

...which is why I told you to quit being a smart ass. I know that you know that I can use the search function.

However, that is not the point of this thread. The point is to make it easier to search for what you want, and easier to "window shop" in the area that you are interested in. No one said it was impossible as-is.

also, there is the whole problem that people bump threads too often, which is why I mentioned that an un-bumped thread will quickly slide to the oblivion of the unread pages past page 5 or so.

This is one of the best arguments supporting more granulated (sub)forums.
