We should implement a thumbs up/thumbs down type of system where useful posts are rewarded and stupid posts count against you.

They use something like this on reddit - I think it would weed out some of the deadwood.

What is currently your postcount would be the sum of thumbs up/thumbs down.

So, post quality instead of post count. And the post quality can be calculated by number of up votes divided by number of total votes, averaged for every post.

The issue with a user-moderated system like that is the holding of grudges. Say I don't like one thing you posted - then I go around and downvote EVERY other thing you've ever posted. You can see how this is not a well-balanced system.

Who has time to do this? You say we; who is we? This would be a good way to increase your own personal post count. How often will they be rated? Will the thumbs up/down be decided by a panel of peers or an individual? If by a panel, will they be appointed or elected. How about a gold star for correct grammar? Would this eliminate the need for moderators? How far will this go?

*nod* creates far more drama than it's worth, and ultimately amounts to more of a popularity contest than a trustable system of determining user merit.

I agree with Luke. I'm sure/know some people dislike me because of my post count. I've never cared about post count and usually look more at what people say. I don't think its cool to have a lot of posts, if anything it brings negative attention to someone like me. I wish I could hide my post count.
