so knocked out the head gasket , car beat up me too.
Got this sound like somthing is rubbing, dosnt effect the way the car drives it just sounds. Guess ill have to plan a day to fix that...

Installed a 71*c thermostat , temp sit at the first white line right above the blue whole way back on the freeway. Parked at idle temp moves up towards regular temp then when driven or even pushing it temp drops fast. is that a good thing? will it make me run rich. Btw change the temp sen. and a few other things. Still needs a valve adjustment.

Cleaned the block very well , clean piston tops , valves everything pretty good. So far no issues of leaks or burning.

it's not generally a good idea to set the head down on the valves.

funny you should say that. only 2 valves were open , most of the time had the head on its side since i was cleaning it. No issues. Just a heavy mother fuck that is with the intake on it. putting the head+intake on the block and tring to move the exhaust manifold was a pain in the ass. Im sure my back will hurt for weeks not days.

Ditto....greg's right on that one though. Anytime you set a head on the bench make sure its on its side or place wood on either end to prop it up off the bench. Alittle bend will make a big problem later.

I ran a 71*C thermostat for a while. Was nice in the summer when I was really pushing it, but the engine ran too rich for daily driving when it was slightly cool out. Just my 2c.

I always advise against colder thermostats. Engines run best at full operating temperature. There's no reason not to run an OEM temp tstat.
