Idk about all that. Maybe off the line due to the sport has the 3.15 diff and the reg 540's diff is 2.90 or something like that i believe. My 540 is pretty damn nice with its stock diff now however i am in the market for an m5 diff as we speak.
sent from my s4
All manuals had a 2.79 rear, only the sport autos had the 3.15

Religiously replace parts before they break. Keep the engine free of vacuum leaks, be sure the fuel and ignition system is operating as designed and if at any point something makes a weird noise or seems abnormal, stop, figure out why and fix it before driving the car. If you do that the car will be very reliable and strong and shouldn't cost any more than what a properly maintained BMW should run to operate.

M5=Money X 5. Be ready for that and you will be fine. Wonderful cars that are a lot of fun to drive. Drives like a sedan until you get if over 4K then it starts to pull hard. The motor makes a lot of noise compared to any other BMW other than the M3 but that is just the normal sound it makes.
I enjoyed the short time I had as the caretaker of one of these fine cars and loved it more every time I drove it. One day I would like to have another one or the E28 M5 would be fun too.
