      How many of you guys are boosted? Im considering to boost my e30 piece by piece but the only draw back I have is getting stopped and getting ref'd or passing one of those nazi smog checkpoints.
      any input?

              For the most part cops don't expect an E30 to have a turbo under the hood so unless they catch you doing something silly you'll probably be just fine. The few times I've been pulled over in my car over the time I've owned it they've never said anything... And I have a boost gauge in the A/C vent. LOL.

                    In my turbo career, I've been pulled over six times(?).
                    Three were citations (front plate, speeding 15 over, yellow/red-light controversy); never asked me about the engine/car.
                    One was me driving like a complete fucking asshat racing an e92 M3; My excuse to the officer was he was teasing me and I gave in. Officer scolded me then let me go and didn't question the car.
                    Another was recent when I was driving spiritedly in my friend's s50turbo e30; officer didn't question the car.
                    And another I was pulled over for no front plate, though he asked me to open the hood this time. I was being polite and cooperative .He asked some questions, complimented the car, and just told me to put my plate back on and let me go.

                    So what Matt said is pretty much what I think too.
                    They just don't suspect old BMW's to have tinkering done like other Japanese cars which they must deal with often.

                    This whole popularity burst with these cars though isn't good for us.

                      My friend with an s13 got popped. Cop popped the hood and said thats not a k24 LOL. I guess they know what a sr20 looks like at the least. He got put up for a bar inspection, but instead payed the fine since he moved out of state.

                        I think the BAR fine is around $750 or so to avoid getting it checked by the ref.
                        If you get pulled over and ref'd again though, there is no way around it.
                        Something like that. My friend got ref'd for a cone filter and his car was an m50 turbo. The cop didn't know shit lol.

                                so when bypassing a heater core do you

                                a. plug the lines

                                or

                                b. splice the lines together

                                b. seemed like the logical choice at first but then after some reading and thinking, you're basically throwing hot coolant right back to where cool coolant should be going. would plugging the lines cause problems?
