I like to normally tell the smog guy to hold my spot and be back in 15 minutes and go do some miles at 70+ in third gear high revs on the freeway. That normally gets it plenty hot :D then just make sure to keep the car running and throw it on the dyno! I've had multiple cars pass using this method that didn't pass on their first attempt. (This is assuming the car is running well and you have no other major issues)

Well since everyone is so interested.. Got my hands on the car during my lunch break, it slowly coughed to life. Turned in off and on to check fluids. I drove it: wtf? This is so fucking smooth. Shiit. And it's quiter. Not complaining.

But as I drove it, a hissing sound developed. I had to leave so I haven't checked the source yet.

        Bottom line: new engine works!

Yep you got it. I don't think you need a screwdriver though, I haven't used one.

The freeway is almost 20 miles away from the smog place by a busy road with lots of stoplights. I tired by driving up and down a long a straight road for maybe 5 mins. And he always let's it run on the dyno for a few minuets before he tests it

That what I've always been told. I think the origin came from Ferrari. Since most guys dont daily their car or are only driven on street at low speeds. They'd have guys take em out on the track to stretch out and break out carbon build up, but I've heard it come from Alfa guys too.

My hose clamps use 8mm screw/bolt things. What are you prying on? ...if you say the hoses, then in my defense, my hoses have been on and off way too many times this year, so they need no persuasion

When I get to my smog guy I leave my car idling in the lot while I wait. A hot cat works more efficiently
