head set comes with a valve cover gasket, right? Besides that, I'd say do everything behind the timing cover just cuz you're there and get some coolant too.

Behind timing cover ? Like the timing belt tensioner or what else ?

and already got 4 gallons of coolant and already diluted with distilled water ;)

Won't need to compress them at all. Easy peasy.

Mansalad has a z3 rack , steering is smooth and direct . I wonder if z4 racks feel any better ..

I'm thinking about trying the z4 "manual" rack. Supposed to from the electric assisted steering and there are no hydraulic lines running in or out of it.

Ive read the Z3 rack is scary, like dont sneeze while you're driving scary.

Tell me more about this? So you run it with the electric assist?

I'm not a fan of electric steering at all. All the feedback from the front gets lost

I'm just going to do a e36 328i rack. I hear the z3 is too small of a ratio and makes it a little twitchy...

the idea is that the z4 used this rack along with it's electric assisted steering but when you bring it over to the e30 you only install the rack without electric assist. peep the thread and when you see the rack you'll be more curious as to whether it is easier to turn the wheel compared to other modern counter parts (z3, e36, e46 etc) with no PS.

Id think the "twitchy" feeling is more down to alignmwnt no?

That said I run the e46 330 rack with power steering and find it excellent. Quick, direct, smooth. Its actually a faster rack than the e46m3 and just a touch "slower" than the z3 rack without the premium price.

Maybe this is a terrible way of explaining it but here I go, I think its the threshold of input.
So, I believe the "twitchy" feeling come from that almost non existent threshold. Especially at freeway speeds.

My old Genesis Coupe had super fast and responsive steering to the point where you'd have to be extremely cautious driving at highway speeds, because any small input made the car jerk pretty badly.
