    Tell me about Norcal.

I might be moving up to the San Mateo area for a job this summer. Been looking for places on Craigslist, but it's hard to find something like a single-bedroom with a roomy garage.

How's the e30 scene in that area? Car scene in general? Cost of living?

Car scene is definitely not as intense as it is down in Socal, alot more "cliquey" if that makes sense.

I have no idea about cost of living and whatnot, since I have no real experience looking for a place in that area, but I know the San Mateo area is fairly close to CSU East Bay, so you may be able to find a student trying to sublease their apartment for the summer.

Stay in the "bay area" - don't venture anywhere near Modesto or the valley. Daly city is nice - I've spend some wonderful time in SF. Really a top notch city.

not looking for just a summer place, this is a full-time gig. I definitely got the feeling that it's more cliquey...

It's great up here, San Mateo is really nice too. It's actually my favorite place in the bay and the food is really good there. As far as cost of living goes, unless you're making close to 50k expect most of it to go to expenses. Garages in the city are usually like an extra 250/month but IDK whats up in San Mateo, I'd expect it to be the same. As far as E30's go we've got a tight crew up here for sure and meet regularly. edit: wrong town. the whole peninsula is a pretty nice place to be, excepting a few seedy parts of SF.

i miss the bay and if i hadn't already started school by the time i split with the ex, i'd have thrown my shit in my car and headed up there in a heartbeat.

^ LOL... Nice. Even though SD has much far better weather than SF. I've lived in LA, SD and been enough times to SF to know whats up. I am thinking about moving up there only if the right opportunity came up. But it's a dope place and the greens are the best.

My buddy has a house for rent in Oakland. Right off 580/High street in the hoodie. Small 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom with Garage and backyard for medicinal gardening. Might be a little too expensive for 1 person. Might be better if you had a roomate. PM for details.

^^ not looking to live in Oakland, but thanks.

Is there a common name for a "loft above a 2-car garage"?
