Hey guys. I bought a key blank earlier this week and I'm having some trouble getting the local locksmiths to copy it for me because it is made of steel not the cheap aluminum kind I've got now. Do you guys know where I might be able to get it done at? I found a place on Ventura Blvd, but he was going to charge $350 which is ridiculous. I've been told by the locksmiths that the dealer can do it, but I'm sure they will charge me an arm and a leg too...

the dealer will give you a key cut to your ignition for 40. there is a big locksmith next to lax shooting range that would probably cut it.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

if by keyhole you mean lock cylinder then yes. if you take it out of the door and take it to them its relatively less expensive, (cuts labor cost) and a cert locksmith will do it no problem.
Awesome!
Its for my roof rack.
Do I need to take out the cylinder or can I just take out my leg attachment?

Go to Nick Alexander Imports in Los Angeles, they are a BMW dealer. I get my keys there before for $17 a piece, genuine BMW keys. Just bring ID and registration when you order. Usually 3 days wait maximum. Some dealers charge around $50, they are the cheapest one I found so far. They give you the original steel keys and option for the lighted ones too.

^werd?! i'd be in for a lighted one, always thought it'd be cool to have one of those,
and once i get through with this dash/steering wheel swap, rebuilding the locks
is the next small project, id like to start with a fresh key
