No. Leave the Borla, and put in a glass pack. Then if you don't like it, buy a second muffler and get rid of the glass pack. The Vibrant will be just as loud, if not louder the the XR-1 on it's own.

It will make a much nicer tone though.

Get the biggest glasspack you can fit!! Or 2 smaller ones.

glasspacks are raspy. What kind of sound are you going for ? Deep or high. Personaly ive never heared it on a m50 or s50/2 but you might wanna look into a Borla they sound great with a deeeeep tone!

Sorry to hear. Leave the buzzy wannabe race car mufflers
            to the ricers.

            I'm using a 24'' magnaflow.
It's the biggest muffler the e30 can fit.

Also using a bullet type 12'' muffler in the center.
Yeah it's still pretty loud, but It's smooth and throaty.

At this point I just want a quiet car, not prius quiet and not B16 with open headers loud , Id like to have the flow but am completely over with loud annoying exhausts.

If space permits I'll run a 14-18 inch glass pack, leave my cat where it is now and go with a 1045 Vibrant :

get it checked out and see what my Dbs are.

why not just toss on an ebay IE exhaust. Sounds good even with no cat and an exhaust leak.

                  Update

just got back from Arco Iris in Eagle Rock, had a big IMCO muffler installed and now the car sounds exactly like a stock E36 M3.......beautiful !

so my setup goes > SS Reps a la ebay > single 3 Y > magnaflow hi flow cat > IMCO big delicious mama muffler

butt dyno proved the XR1 to breathe a little better than my current setup but good thing I have the cat section V-band'd so Ill just remove that section for the track

Now I just have to go and get this signed off, which im almost certain it will.

Its been years since my last exhaust ticket, you guys remember if its one test at 1500 and another at 2500 rpm ? or was it 2500 / 3500 ?

I have a universal short cat and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust to a neutron (single in single out) and its getting to loud for me and i think i am going to put a glasspack in it. I guess i am getting to old (42)and deaf. lol
