not really. but seriously, you guys have no idea how much time is required for these shoots. so if you don't want one, so be it. don't ask.

the little bit of money i'd eventually charge for these wouldn't cover the cost of the rig itself for a long while let alone editing time. but if you can find someone else with a car rig willing to do it for free then great. props to that guy.

I think its cause you've had the camera for like two or three weeks to a month if that.

I can't imagine charging people anytime soon personally, that's just me. I've been shooting for a year now and I'm still not happy with my shit but I can see I've progressed far enough to be able to say I've seen myself progress as a photographer from day 1. Idk if that makes sense.

Think of it this way, going to school is labor/hard work/meticulous work/long hours, pretty much what you would call editing the rig out. They're both a lot of labor in other words. You don't ask people to pay you to go to school, you do it for yourself so you can gain the skills/knowledge to do what you wanna do so later you can charge people money and ball hard for the rest of your life.

That's how I look at myself and photography at least. I invest time first and plan to cash out later.

I agree with Ayman. It's going to be hard to grow your skills if you don't practice. People don't pay for practice whether it covers your costs or not.

exactly how i see it as well, i plan on doing the same thing. i never said to anyone that i would charge for any kind of photoshoots except for this car rig AFTER i get it down. i think for the meantime food is the least that can be of payment.

i mean, it's not like i just show up, set the tripod on the ground and take some pictures. this actually requires careful planning of viewing angles and setting up the positioning of the suction cups, and the boom. and that's just for one angle. so when i go to take more angled shot, i have to repeat the process over again. THEN i need to come back to my computer and meticulously with hours of editing, remove the rig itself and then edit it afterwards.

i think i can safely say i know how to use photoshop pretty well since i've been using it since like '07-'08 so i'm pretty sure i can edit out a rig, however, i've never actually done something like this specifically. this is why i say i wouldn't mind taking the time to do it for my first few shoots for some food.

            Damn this thread moves.
            How was FF6? Worth it?

I'd hate to disagree with you Travis, but they are right broski. You JUST got the rig and only been doing it for like a month TOPS.

This is a good point broski. You can't EVEN be talking about charging friends for something you do as a hobby.

Back in 05-07 I was racing quads, 4 wheelers and shit. Well to get sponsors I decided to make a video of myself. Some friends had scene and asked me to make 1 for them and I did.
You think its a pain editing a rig out of a photo, ninja please.
I made like 4 or 5 videos, each of them ended up only being like 3 mins long. The length of a song. Each video EASILY took my 30-40 hours of editing. All I charged was lunch.
AND I bought a fancy new digital Video camera and 2 different editing soft wares.
            Camers-$400.
            Soft ware - $150 a piece.
Never saw a dime of it back.
But that is in part due to the fact that I enlisted into the Corps and bounced.
When I get back to Cali I'll see if my videos are still on my dad computer and post them.

Even with me welding. I have 4 structural welding certifications. I notched some car frames for a some friends up the Gay-V and out in Riverside when I was living out there and I didn't charge them anything but lunch. They proved the materials and I brought my machine, tools and skills.

I think Mike asked me about doing a roll cage and all I said was "provide the materials, gas and feed me."

lol, i think you guys can't read. i have years of experience in photoshop and am quite comfortable editing.

so, to reiterate, i am not charging anything but simply asked for some food for the first shoots, thereafter i will be charging something stupid cheap.

i hope that clears that up once and for all. thanks guys.

I've never, to this day, told somebody I will charge them for a frame notch or any welding service. Outside of a professional job anyway.

I think once you start charging people it will stress you the waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles out. You add money to the equation and what used to be friendly suggestions or opinions are now insults and people telling you they straight up dont like it and it's your responsibility to fix it. Remember, everyone starts this out as a hobby.

I remember when I first started with my T2i and thought I was hot shit and the pictures I was taking were great and at that time I believed it. I look back on those and laugh because it is a learning process. Coming from a cell phone camera to any kind of DSLR you are going to think that all your shots are great.

I know "professional" photographers that want to try something outside of their field of expertise and beg people to do stuff for free just so they can get some training and have a better understanding of how the shots work.

Travis, I love that you have been doing this for a month and already have so much hardware, this shows you care which is awesome. Wait to get some exposure and then when someone asks you to take pics you can at that time put out a price for what your time is worth. Anything can be fixed in post, try and set the shot up right and there will be less post processing. For me, I absolutely hate all those shots that are processed the hell out of. Find the right street at the golden hour and I will have mad respect!

i agree eddie, once money is involved it gets to be a hassle. but like I had mentioned, it wouldn't be until after i had gotten used to it and have some experience under my belt. thanks for the kind words, i definitely want to take it a lot more seriously and would love any opportunities for shoots. i too hate crazy over the top pp, kills it for me unless it's done really really well.
