Hahaha. No denial. Haha.
Do it.
DO IT!
Thursday to Monday.
Do it.
That's what we did, the wife and I.
Tips.
If your not in a new-ish car.
Before the trip.
Replace your wheel bearings, and belts.
I know it sounds like a lot, but don't be cheap. These are the MOST likely things to go out on you on a long hall.
On top of that, I HIGHLY Recommend you do an oil change if you have over 1000 miles on your current oil. If you don't you're gonna need to stop at a shop and they are gonna see your from out of town and are gonna rape your wallet.
If your oil change can wait until you arrive I can take it to a shop and show them I live here. Chances are it'll be cheaper in the long run.
Also, HIGHLY recommended, ALL weather tires. I know how you bmw drivers gotta have your fancy street tires, lol, and chances are they won't last the whole trip.
Besides the weather and roads DRASTICALLY change going across the country. Which you will NOT be accustomed to. So when you get back home you can put on you fancy tires again.
Also, car wise, double check your spark plugs. Clean the carbon off and check the gap. This will go a long way for MPGs.
Sea Foam the motor oil, prior to change if you need to change it, sea foam the fuel and intake.
Bring extra fuses, although you should already have those.
Know your average MPGs and take 2-3 miles off that. THEN make sure you have enough money for fuel.
Lastly, don't be a big fat vagina about putting miles on your car. Its funner than hell. And you WILL NOT care about the miles afterward.
