Thanks Nick. Interesting setup. How do you like the RS3s? Did they get gummy at some point?

I heard you were one of the fastest e30s that day haha. Gotta check you out some days.

I LOVE the rs3s personally. They are a great tire. Once they get warm they have grip for days and totally work with my driving style. I started out with an even 40-40 on tire pressure but dropped the rears down a bit cause I was dorifing too much.

And as for being one of the fastest of the day... The m42 has some spunk ;)

Agreed, the RS3s are great. They don't talk, but the E30 steering system does let you know when on the limit. However I do not like them on 7" tires. 7.5 in should be the min width with the 225/45s. 8-9" would be ideal. The RS3s have a very soft sidewall. Otherwise drop to a 205 or 195 to gain back response and feedback. The extra width is not helping when your sidewall is stretched in...especially with the soft sidewall.

Hot I ended up with 38psi front and 41rear. Camber was 1.9 front and 1.4 rear (max I can get) Caster is 9.3º Front toe is .04º out and 0 rear. I do need more camber but the Porsche cup car instructor at my usual event says that the car is generally on the touch of oversteer, and on throttle has quite a bit of oversteer like I enjoy. After 4 runs they were on the heat limit. Typically AutoX is 3-4 runs back to back is max, so this weekend we were all just abusing the tires Sunday. Rears look like they wore pretty well, but the fronts were abused (pushing) on the last sweeper of the course for me.

On side note, I had my RS3s shaved as they are also quite a bit heavier than the competition in that size, but reports are that shaving the RS3s are not needed for the blocks to survive.

Niice! Sounds like my next set of tires haha. Can't wait to mess around with tire pressures at the track again.

Although, I'm still wondering how the RT-615Ks will do in the track compared to the RT-615s that I've tried in the past... haha.

Fwiw, I had the azenis k compound as my previous tires. They were good, but not even close to the same ultimate grip level as the RS3s. Imo

I didn't know jack shit about performance of tires and suspension, till this past sunday. I will be attending a few more of these events and stretch them to every other month or every 3 months (have a fam to support :(), to better my skills driving. I really enjoyed myself out there and managed to push my car a little more than I have evaarrrr....

I want to get a set of good tires and lighter wheels for better grip. Hopefully more guys are willing to join next time, that way it's an all out e30 auto-X.

I was running NT01 225/45/15. I started the day 35 front 34 rear with a target around 39-40 PSI. I slowly bleed the front by about 4psi in the morning sessions. I checked in the afternoon but it was hooking up pretty good. I still got a little bit of understeer that I need to work out.

I am set -2.5 camber with eight inch toe out. FYI

I was able to run some 35.xx runs end of the day. Was consistantly in the 36 and low 36 for the last couple sessions.

I have been running NT01 225-45-15 since last August for AutoX. I have at least 8 AutoX on tires and 1 track day on them. They felt a little faster when they were brand new. Now they are very consistant. What I have heard is you can use them until they cord which is my intention.

I came from using RA1 225-50-15. This was a good tire and wore really well and is suppose to be the same compound but the sidewalls are supposed to be stiffer. It really is not a fair comparison due to the fact that I went down in aspect ratio. The 45 is the way to go. Better acceleration out of the corner and less tire roll. It just sucks if you are driving on the freeway to an event with a buzy little engine.

What has been instructed to me by every instructor that I have had, is to learn how to drive the car smoothly on the limit on your street tires and stock suspension. Once you accomplish that, then go ahead and get your ultra summer performance tires, but still stay away from slicks. A set of street prepared class tires (140 wear or higher) should last you a season (1-2x per month).

For your reference when purchasing some awesome street prepared class tires: (also pertains to our size)

When reading keep in mind the type of AutoX event you will be running IE back to back pounding the tires or only 3-4 with a 2 hour break.
