That would be a massive leak. Where did you measure and do you know your gauge is good?
What's the engine doing?
gauge is good, verified on another e30. I measured off a crankcase vent vent (really, the ccv hose from the valvecover has a tee that goes to the back of the intake manifold) and got like 3-5".
the engine runs fine otherwise, none of the cylinders miss, plugs look good, it just makes no power, hesitates before spinning to WOT and runs a bit hot. (which are signs of a bad vac leak and/or a plugged exhaust)
I'm going to be digging at it Tuesday night... need a vehicle to take to buttonwillow this weekend, and the six is struggling.
do you know anything about updating from an early tank to a new tank in a car? the M3's tank is too small and i see rust on the outside. might do what you are doing

Late model tank fits. You need to run the return line to the left lobe instead of the main pump, IIRC. The fuel filter mounting might have to be changed slightly, too, but it doesn't seem like a big job.

The back of the manifold is a good place to measure so that's cool.
I think you need to rule out the exhaust. Intake leaks would be next. Then timing.

I've set the static timing and verified that the mechanical advance works - 19 degrees at 3krpm. However, with shit vacuum, I also get shit for vacuum advance, which is probably part of the power loss.

Yeah, lack of vacuum is not helping, haha.
That makes it a little easier. Just drop the exhaust.
