So I haven't driven my car much this last week since the bridge was closed (I work in the City). Tonight, I decide I wanna go for a little cruise. The last time I parked the car I did my usual thing where I turn the wheel away from the curb since I parked facing up the incline of my street.
Get in the car tonight, pull out to leave and the steering wheel does some funny twirly shit and going everywhere but straight when I straighten it. I start thinking, "Oh god the lca bushing fell out", or, "shitshitshit the rack broke off the subframe".
Park the car around the corner where it won't be in the way, take a look under annnnnnnd:
There's my night...sigpic

That's the annoying part. I came out to my car and it was like that, didn't even notice till I tried to drive away. My summation is that some dickwad hit my wheel and the tierod gave. Even that doesn't make perfect sense cause I've had off-track excursions without stupid damage like this but I have nothing to go off of.sigpic

I appreciate it but I'm gonna sit on this till I have a plan. Dragged it around the corner and parked it somewhere it won't get towed while I think. Either gonna use this as an excuse to do a rack swap/new tie rods(in addition to towing I'm sure I'll get shop raped $$$$$$), or just put my e30 habit down for a bit...sigpic

Negative, ghostrider. I live on College in Berkeley, I can't even check fluids on a a side street without getting hassled (zero joke). Not to mention, if you look at the shape of it, it seemed like it only stopped bending cause it hit the subframe, this pic is after I drove about half a block and pulled over cause it felt fucked. Who knows how much of that energy was transferred to the rack, or at least I'm paranoid about that now.sigpic

Dang.. That really sucks.
Not all hope is lost though; my new Z3 rack was eff'd in an accident, but when I pulled the boot off it was in good condition and the pinion spun freely (indicative of a healthy rack) despite the intense damage to the tie-rod (Z3 rods are beefier too, so you know this thing took some damage)
A new rod would at least make it drivable again. I'd go for it.. But then again I actually have a place to work on my carComment

I've got NIB e30 tie rods in my hoard as well and was up in Berkeley last night, would have dropped them off if I'd seen this. Let me know if you need them.
edit: if you work in the city we can work out a lunchtime transferLast edited by kronus; 09-02-2013, 08:40 AM.Comment
