Was just looking back at some picture of my 325es, brought back some good memories. I miss that thing.

Anyone ever do mods, then miss the simplicity of having a stock, fun, clean car?

Plastic or very thin metal flexible putty knife. I used a pairing knife the kind used to take the skin off an apple to insert into one edge of the oil pan. Then take your time and work it around the edges. Lots of breaks helps with the patience aspect of the job. Brake cleaner may help to break down the RTV as well. Chemical RTV removers are a waste of time. I had no luck using them at all.

Grainger has a nice plastic one that will set you back a whole $1.25

Thanks for the advice. I should have a couple of those sitting around, I'll start working them in with a dead blow mallet.
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Good hits from a rubber mallet make short work of uncooperative oil pans

Biggest problem with that is that right now the engine is supported on an engine support bar with a chain, so whacking the pan directly just moves the whole engine slightly.

A 2x4 is also nowhere close to 2"x4". More of a name than anything else.

it's 2"x4" when it gets rough cut. then it gets planed down to 1.5"x3.5".

I'm scared I'll just crack the pan before it breaks free. I need to pry it off and maybe try to soften the RTV/gasket first.

Heat gun on the RTV. Open flame torch is a last last last last last last last resort.
