european b34 had 10:1 compression pistons, and was tuned for no cats, made more power as a result.

american b34 was pretty lame by comparison.

          Ahhh. yea, the b34 in dad's e28 is pretty.....meh.

Is the only difference the tune and pistons? cause that's fairly easy to fix. Annoying but easy.

I think maybe it also had a more aggressive cam.

Any M30B35 should work. They won't know which year it came from.

It would be a better idea to just go with aftermarket pistons. $900 for Ross in whatever spec you want.

Are you talking about the euro "L" block? As it's referred to?

It wasn't tuned for no cats. It was just a over square bore vs stroke.

As a result - a much more "peppy" motor. It like to rev. Where a stock m30 likes to make TQ.

I'm talking in regards to passing the CA BAR. He wants to swap one in to his 91 vert.

They won't know what year the B35 is from when they inspect it.

I know plenty about M30 swaps, thanks.

Nope, the m90 and the euro b34 are different engines. Spence's pipe dream m535 has an m90, as did my old six. Euro-market 82+ e24 and e28 had the dirty b34.

Edit, to clarify, L block == m90. It is 93.4x84, vs the b34/b35's 92x86. We just built one up for the lemon!
