it's not really track hours that does it, and people that have a lot of track hours actually have some issues in lemons because there aren't passing rules in wheel-to-wheel racing and going 4 wide through T1 at thunderhill freaks them out, and freaked out people react unpredictably, lose control and frequently collect others into their mess.
you need to be a careful driver and a responsible person first of all. head constantly moving, awareness of every single car around you plus flag stations, gauges, noises, things people tell you on the radio, things you know about other cars and drivers. Going fast and "being good at driving" in the r3v-canyon-bombing-in-an-eta sense is far from the #1 priority in a race like this. Once you have the rest of the stuff down, you can start to work on getting faster.
