Is the s50 swap a lot of work? Also how much is the little stuff, everything excluding the engine and dme?

If you use the zf310/320 transmission that came mated to the s50/52, and the drivetrain is from an m3 coupe, then you don't have to modify anything. The tranny will bolt in, the driveshaft will bolt in. No custom work.
Also, the 328i shares the same transmission/driveshaft as the US e36 m3 (96-99)
edit: and if you use the Getrag 260 that came in the e30 325i, you don't need to modify anything either.
So I guess, you don't have to do anything to the driveshaft. At all. Ever. Eric.world renown Harry Potter expert

I'll let you know how long it takes once I actually do it.
I've had one hangup after another and now it's school season and I'm busy as hell again.
I've switched platforms and am going to build an airride setup into the new chassis, so everything is in limbo still until I get all the parts I need for a bag setup. I'm wondering what would be the best bushings to go with for a bagged setup, as it'll be moving quite often.

I'm pretty sure I have the 260 in my car. I found a complete s50 with dme for 2k so I'm debating doing the swap but if its going to cost too much or take a long time then I won't.
500 for dme, exhaust
500 for exhaust
500 mounts new trans brace
300 for drive shaft
500 seals
700 for misc

Engine $2kish (DME should be included in this)
If you wanna use your G260:
E28 M5 mounts, stock trans mounts - $70-100ish OR the full AKG swap poly mounts and trans mounts $300ish
Modified or fabbed trans brace - varies, could make your own for $free or could buy one off r3v, I got mine for $60 shipped
Twisted selector rod - $free or twisted DSSR - $130
If you wanna use the ZF310/320
E28 M5 mounts, stock trans mounts - $70-100ish OR the full AKG swap poly mounts and trans mounts $300ish
Driveshaft - $depends
Numerically lower diff - $300ish (then sell off your old one for about the same)
Exhaust - I just spent a couple hundred to mate it up to my stock m20 exhaust (and I grossly overpaid) since it was an M50. probably about $1k to do it right.
While you have it out, reseal it and get a new clutch. IIRC the rule is the starter and flywheel/clutch have to match. Either trans will work with either flywheel but an S50 flywheel won't work with an M20 starter nor vice versa. Shave the M20 single mass ("i") flywheel down on the back (lighten it) and it should bolt right onto the S50 though you'll probably need an aftermarket clutch to handle the extra torque.
Wiring is actually pretty easy but if you're completely unfamiliar with it you may make some newbie mistakes. A little annoying to go through the ETMs if you're unfamiliar with it. You can buy adapters but I'd just DIY.paint sucks

Steven use a 325es big flange driveshaft with a zf310. no mods.
