This sounds a little far fetched, unless the m10 was worked over.

Not at all. Top speed was a bit above 100 (118 for Tii) and its a BMW so only need to get to ~90+ to get 100mph indicated.

Deutcheman can confirm. It was his crazy ass in the drivers seat.
