My Dad wants a Porsche finally but doesn't have a huge budget. I told him to find a solid 914 but he wants a Boxster. What does r3v think?

The trouble with the 914 is the shifter. Finding a gear in a 914 is less that fantastic. The shifter is vague at best. 914s are cool. I dig them, I have a friend with a real 914-6 and another friend with a short stroke 2.6L 6 with a wide body on it (it rips)
Air cooled Porsche's are going up in value fast. Boxters on the other hand are getting downright cheap. You can find them for about the same price as a good E30.

Will
Since you're in here Will, there's a couple 1600 roadsters that run and drive and look to be in good shape for sale in my price range and I've always liked them but never thought about owning one, would you advise me to stay away or go for it lolC6Z

I just wanted to say thanks for the help guys. I passed smog this afternoon. I took the advice and changed the plugs, fuel filter, and oil. Then drove the car around town at high RPMs and did a few freeway pulls. I used a new station recommended by a couple friends and it passed fairly quickly as the guy running the shop did the test in 2nd gear. At least I'm off the hook for another 2 years :) Here's my numbers for reference. The HC count is still a bit on the high side, but it'll do for the time being.
