My best friends great dane passed away last night. You do not have to read this, I just feel like telling someone.
My friend, my brother, and I went on a jog at Pena Adobe, and we decided to take him with us because he has done it multiple times before. The dog (Kitty is his name) has not been eating lately, and he was noticeably skinnier. At first he was fine, walked and jogged with us, but after awhile he started to act really weird. He would just pace around, so we started to head down and figured it was the heat. After awhile he wanted to just lay down. he would lay down on the side of hills, in the shade, and sometimes not.
We got towards the bottom gate and my buddy said he would just go get the car. We layed Kitty down so he can rest and what not. When my buddy got back with the car we told Kitty to get in the car, he tried to stand but his back feet were not cooperating. he was walking on the backside of his feet, so I picked him up and placed him in the back.
Kitty looked super tired, and he just layed there. We got home and he would not cooperate when we tried to get him out of the car, his back legs were simply not moving (this is around 5:30 or so), so I picked him up again and layed him down in the garage in the shade. He was panting very heavily, we got him water, but he would not drink it. We put cold wet towels on him to cool him down in case it was something to do with the heat, because his neighbor (a vet) told us it cold possibly be a heat stroke. We did it for an hour, I left, and they continued it till 10.
At ten he was still not responding in his rear legs, so they decided to take him to UC Davis Pet Med center. When they got there the whole team was waiting outside, and they quickly rushed him into the elevator. In the elevator he proceeded to have a heart attack. He died, but they revived him and put him on a machine. The vets said that they could keep him alive on the machines till he gets better, but the cost was over a couple thousand dollars, and that money was not available, so they had to put him down.
My buddy was asked if he wanted the body, and he said no (because he did not have any clue what he would do with it), and then they asked to cremate him and he said yes, but something was difficult with the paperwork, and they left there with only his collar.
Steven got home, he called me and we went for a ride. This is when he told me. I was shocked because Kitty was always such a great dog, and the best great dane ever. We just drove around for awhile and soon ended up at the top of the world, where steven decided he wanted to bury his dog, but he did not have him.
We drove to the bottom since there was no cell service, we called up the Davis Center, and they said they still have him and we can get him. At this point it is about 11-1130. We drove home quickly to get shovels, gloves, lights, a headstone, and water. We also got two more friends who have been there since the day he got Kitty.
We all drove to Davis pet med center, got him and headed back, and it was about 1:45ish on our way back.) We got to the Top of the world and found a place to bury him (2:30). We started to dig, but the ground was very hard packed, and lots of rocks, but we kept going. We spent about three hours banging through rocks, and a little dirt till we had a hole big enough (5:30-6). Finally it was time to put him in the hole. We did so, Steven put his favorite dog toy on it, and ripped his shirt off to cover him with. (he always rips his shirts off cause they are like $1-2 white v-necks. We filled the hole, covered it with rocks, and were finally done.
We got his mom (it was "her" dog and loved him very much) at around 6:30 and took her up. At first she thought it was just a memorial type thing and didn't understand that we had actually gotten kitty and buried him. She eventually understood and just started tearing up, and getting emotional. She loved it and said it was perfect for him.
He was an awesome dog, he has made the hike up Pena Adobe multiple times, and has even had a few stand offs with cows in which he got kicked in the face once. He was not even three years old, but had a good life. He just started to swim last weekend, and was supposed to go camping with us in Berryessa on boats this weekend. He lived a good life.
Crazy night, I need to make an order with blunt to get a few parts I missed in the last order. I also need to find a clutch pressure hose. Going to Berryessa this weekend, it will be lots of fun.

Yeah, he was an awesome dog. Listened all the time, never chased or barked at other dogs, and went anywhere and everywhere with us (when we took him that is)
I think it was their family's sixth dane. They have another right now, but she just is not nearly as awesome.
Anyone else love dogs? There are four running around my household. Two chihuahuas (annoying ass little bastards they are) that piss on everything, am Australian cattle dog we saved from a shelter, and some kind of terrier mix.

A year yesterday, I lost my old e30. :puppy: (Not to take away from Marco's friend's dog though)
Albeit, being an eta, and one that needed some lovin', it was my dad's when I was a kid and after he got a new car and left this in the garage with a worn out clutch, it became my car. He tried selling it at garage sales for nothing, and by the grace of God, nobody ever bought it. ;) I waited and waited to drive it. Finally, after eight years (and a couple cars that got in the way) I took my first drive in it with my then girlfriend, now wife. :)
Fast forward to July 11, 2011. Heading home from picking up my last check at my old job, a 18 year old pulled out in front of me during rush hour traffic. Having no escape route, I t-boned the sh****t out him doing 45 mph right on his driver's door. Man, was it surreal. Not to sound like a baby, but after the adrenaline wore off, I cried. The car I grew up and went to baseball and tennis practice in, that I got dropped off at school in, was toast.
A month later, I came across this beauty in Denver, just a short 444 miles away. 1992 kashmir beige 325iC. Automagic. Crackless dash! Being the third owner with mounds of paperwork back to the delivery report, window sticker, etc. and everything in between. Meet Robert Plant.
So far, in just short of a year, I've managed to do sooooooooooooo many mods. :giggle: JOM's, chocolate center weaveswindscreen, most of a Racing Dynamics wood grain interior trim, and a peerless skidplate. Not much. :)
Here's how it sits as of recently.
To this day, I miss my old e30. There's no connection like the one I had with it. I do love my vert though, just a different beast. Plans are m50 swap. Since my car's staying registered in NM, turbo will be in the works. And possible stroking. Giggity. And finally, some real wheels.
RIP Betsy Mae Weatherby. (Yes, Betsy Mae Weatherby.)
I'll get off my soapbox now.Last edited by Albuquerque30; 07-12-2012, 08:08 PM.
