That's the distance between the struts, i'm talking the diameter of the part of strut insert that sits in the bearing.. trying to adapt some e30 struts to the six.

That's for the e28-suspension e24s.. mine's e12. I wonder if the strut tower bolt pattern is the same...

A proper fill and drill is worth more than e38 5s in 5x120. If he rolled the inner fender lips and did 10 and 15mm staggered spacers with 80mm stud kit he will have a perfect daily fit. To me that is bring out the wheels a pleasing fitment while retaining fender clearance.

Granted he can run an aggressive 18 and 20mm staggered with a mild roll and pull he will fit them with ease. There is nothing wrong with fill and drill or adapters. Both paths will cost about the same.

You're just looking for the OD size of the e30s threaded cylinder that goes through the bearing?

The top where the nut threads and spins freely on the insert. There is two sizes, Bilstein and Koni, let me know if so. I own both.

the not-threaded part under the threaded part. the part that's in the strut bearing.

I know what you're talking about, what model insert? Bilstein is about 16mm and the Koni is smaller at 14mm. I have a spacer washer that was included in my GC camber plates(Down sizes the camber plate tunnel). Did a measurement off those.

Great, thanks, that's what I needed. I have e30 Konis, so now I need to find a place that makes metric spacer tubes...

Call GC, they make the spacers. I am sure they would have something laying around that would fit or could be cut to fit.

Get e30 or e28 camber plates and modify your tower mounting points. Done.

I run 225/45/15s on all four corners so I can rotate them. A 235/45/17 will rub like hell. I couldn't fit a set of 225/45/17s under my car period. The wheels wouldn't turn without hitting the fenders (yes the car is over lowered and needs to go up an inch at least to get the suspension geometry correct.) If a 225 won't clear at all, a 235/45 won't even turn in the wheel wells. A 225/45/16 will fit as that is what the Sport Evos came with, but its well documented that the same size in a 17 doesnt' fit. 235/40s might clear in the rear (assuming you are running at least -4 degrees camber), but rub in both the front and back of the inside front wheel wells well before you are close to lock. 17s are flat out too big for the car. With that much rear camber, you will just chew the hell out of the insides of the tires (ask me how I know, I can provide pics as well if needed.) well before the outsides are worn out.

By the way, I only have an M3. Since the M3 was designed with bigger fenders than the normal E30 for a reason (to fit bigger wheels and tires) and 17s don't fit with the bigger fenders, they sure won't fit on a non- M without having serious work done to the inner and outer fenders. (Or people don't give a shit about chewing the hell out of both the tires and the fenders.)

In my book, tire rub, and destroying an expensive set of wheels are inexcusable. So is running big wheels that hurt performance more than they help. All the fast people I know with E30s run 15s, not a one of them runs 17s, there must be a reason, and I'm going to go with all the reasons I have previously stated.

I've run 17's on an e30 before, but I probably won't again, they are too big. That said, I didn't have any rubbing issues running 215/45r17s on the front with IE3s and e90 hats.

Anyone want to buy some 17" kopis that need to be trued and restored?
