Has anyone ever had a smog station wave their evap test because they do not have the right connector?

I heard it from my auto shop teacher as well as read it a few places.

I do not understand how my EVAP can have such a bad leak my system wont hold any pressure what so ever.There is no visible fuel leak anywhere either.
