Story time!

A friend of mine who is also a member on this forum but wont be named recommended I have this guy Martin weld me a half cage. I went over to their shop and saw some of his work. I was impressed. I agreed I would bring my car over for a Group A inspired half cage, that the work would be done in a week, and that the cost would be $1200 with a battery box incorporated in between the rear strut towers. I leave my key so that he can move the car in and out of his tiny shop at night.
Week rolls by, and the car is no where near done. Main hoop is not even in the car. Im like ok, keep the car for another week.
Finely he calls and tells me the cage is done, but I will have to paint it my self, and that now he wants $1500 instead of the original price. I let him know I am not happy and that we can talk about the price when I show up.
I get to the shop, see the work, and I am impressed. I agree to fork over the extra $300 as he did nice work and I like supporting small shops. But I still dont feel good about him bumping the price up last minute.
Weeks roll buy. I get a Face Book message from the guy who recommended I take my car to Martin. He says he had a falling out with Martin. Tells me Martin has been over charging a few other people as well as me, and that he did not know at the time that Martin had raised the price on me. Tells me that Martin has been slacking off on most of his work, and that other people have taken their cars home before the work was done.
Then the bomb shell. Turns out Martin took my car out for joy rides with out asking me, and that he has no license or insurance. If he had crashed my car or hit some little kid while he was stoned shitless I would have been fucked.
Leson learned here, lways get everything in writing, and let people push your car around unless its a big reputable shop. Even then they could be driving your car with out permission.
At least the work he finished was good quality.

Didn't want to rain on your parade when you told me you took it to him already, but Martin is an alchoholic piece of shit. His welds are nice, and he can build a nice cage, but other than that he's a real piece of work. Sorry to hear man, I would have said something, but didn't know your relationship with him.

Dude. I like the look of stretch. And besides, the offset is way too low to even try and put a square tire on it. At this point, it's becoming a show car. I will probably go 205/55/15 rear and 195/55/15 front. But that's bigger than what's on it right now.15x8.5 front 15x9 rear
