California guys I need your help with registering a car!!!

    I think what it needs is a vin verification. He bought the car from Texas, so it's not an original California car. Does that sound right to you guys?

      Ok, that IS right then. An out of state car would need that.

      But if it's not currently registered in CA and you're not in CA why do you want to involve CA at all?

        The whole problem is that he bought the car from Texas and he signed the back of the title.
        Now if I buy the car as is there is no where for me to sign the title and I won't be able to register the car in Chicago.

            Here in CA that is ok, you just need a bill of sale (actual DMV document) from him to you. Does IL not allow this? Have you checked with your DMV locally on what to do? Paying out money to California seems pretty pointless, I think you can get around it.

              Im on my way to my DMV right now to figure this out. Thanks for all the help. I'll report back once I get an answer.

                See if they'll accept the CA DMV bill of sale form and the pre filled out title.
