How many cars can you buy and sell in CA within a year?

so I've bought 2 E30's and sold both of them in less than 4 months and planning to get another E30 (this one I'm planning to keep). I heard that there is a certain limit to many you can buy and/or sell before you are considered a dealer. Does anyone know? Thanks

Legally can't "sell" cars for money... But we have a right to sell the car we own.... It's kinda weird...

You can't buy and sell a car with the INTENTION of selling it for more.
But... How are people going to prove you intended to do so in the first place?

From what I read, you can sell up to a max of 6 a year under your name and 0 for profit; if any of those are sold for profit, it will be on file as unclaimed taxes and may or may not come into dispute with the DMV/CA Income Tax Collectors. Then again, as long as you have the title in your name, you can always claim on the papers that you sold the car for less. Who's gonna know? Less taxes for the other guy, more money for you, no ones in trouble. Win Win
