San Diego: Looking for Mechanic or E30 DIYer

Just bought a 91 325i auto (judge away)

Looking for a good BMW Mechanic or a knowledgeable e30 enthusiast in SD. Not only to get cheaper labor but to learn how to fix this shit.

I have a laundry list of things I would like done but I don't want to go to a regular old shop. It's not overheating, but I know there is something wrong. It's leaking but not too much. Vibrates around 25-30 then stops, vibrates around 80

The inspection revealed:
Engine Oil Mixed with Engine Coolant inside oil cap (milky)
Oil Leaking from Valve Cover Gaskets
Oil Leaking from the Front Crankshaft Seal
Water Pump Leaking Engine Coolant
Power Steering Rack n Pinion Leaking Fluid


I assume I need to replace the head gasket, water pump and timing belt.

Any direction, info, or hookups, please let me know

Get the e30 bible- http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=164030 and use it in combination with this site- http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/tech.../tech_main.htm and invest in some good tools, a jack and some stands. Its not gonna be easy but you'll learn a ton about the car. OR you can take it to this shop in LA..

If you wanna go to a shop in San Diego go to La Jolla independent. They are the best in town hands down. They arent exactly the cheapest but they warranty everything they do no questions asked. They specialize in older bmw's

Give Midnight Oil Motorsports a call, they race SpecE30 and know everything about E30's.

Or Mode Automotive is a good place to go as well.

Thanks for all the replies, I reached out to a couple DIYers and indie mechanics, everyone flaked or didn't get back to me. I ended up finding a really cheap BMW mechanic that does work out of his home garage in City Heights on craigslist.

Probably late to this thread, but I used Bimmer mechanic on wheels. Jim's awesome. Much smaller operation though. He's located near PB.
