E30_fiend, I can't believe that my car is 3whp slower than yours while E30freak89 is pushing the same whp my stock I is pushing and E30freak89 has more "hp" modifications, right? BTW, I got about 200K miles on my e30 and a good 5k-10k were race miles whether it be drifting, autox, or road race miles. Makes me think if I should just leave everything as is and just chip it for now per Osh's suggestion.
Osh and Chris, I'm sorry for hitting the side of the ramp when I was pulling in the garage; it's my welded diff's fault lol jk, my bad y'all. Thanks for hosting this event and I'll keep my eyes open for the $300 tune day, I'm very interested! If you were able to do the $300 that day, then I would have given you the cash on the spot, but I'll patiently wait...lol. Osh, thanks for the advice and I'm definitely going to consider your suggestion, but I will be putting my headers and exhaust system soon, so I may need a different tune than what you originally suggested. I'm excited about this tune and hopefully we can get it done soon, w00t!sigpic

Anything over stock hp is nice. That's a given. The r3v limit was moved up so obviously the power band was moved as well. The seat of the pants dyno isn't accurate at all. That's why I said I wasn't bashing Mark's chip and that I just have to figure out what's going on for sure. And about the torque line being an ignition thing, I didn't blame that on the chip. I will have to do a test with and without the chip to see what happens and if all goes well this week I'll be testing it this Saturday in the morning.

Chirs, my nephew, notified me that the controversy has begun regarding Mark Ds tuning expertise. I have been in this industry a very long time and see this kind of thing often. From where I'm staanding, Mark D has talent. Any one that can recalibrate one these ECUs is talented in my book. He unfortunately, like myself, does not have a magic wand. I have tuned trousands of cars since I started in this biz back in 1973. What works well on one one car may not work as well on another same-make-model, particularly when other dynamics are introduced into the mix, for example high milage vs low milage, free flowing exhaust, used parts, etc etc. A perfect example of this truth is that BMW actually has different calibrations for cars with higher milage to manage the effects of wear and tear, particularly in the earlyier years like the E30 where adaptive systems where still behind the times. The example of what I'm saying showed on Dyno Day as some of you had identical setups with very different results. Don't blame the tuner. Work with Mark and help him to learn why and what is causing these anomolies. I will be working on Taylors 325 as a baseline recalibration to better understand why his car is behaving as it does. I will be recording a great deal of data to capture the snapshot of what is REALLY hapening, such as air flow output voltage curve, exhaust system presures intake dynamics, manifold pressure etc. Now this may not help others but it will explain how and why Taylors car is running the way it is. The best I can offer a customer, as Mark D, is an optimized chip calibration. The result of how well it works is multifold. Consider this whole ordeal as a learning experience for you. Remeber, the whole is equal to the sum of it's parts. No voodoo, just smart setups that work for each individual car. In the mean time, I hope your all planning to have a great Holiday Season. Peace

I understand what you're saying Osh. Like I stated many times before, I'm not bashing Mark D at all. I am just presenting the fact that every car is different. Mark tuned and produced these chips off of very few baseline cars and tweeked the settings as he saw fit. What I'm saying is obviously the chip I received isn't working as well for my car as it would for say a lower mileage car or something like that. The only true way to squeeze as much power out of your current setup is to properly tune it with something more than just a baseline chip for one certain setup. Every motor has different needs and those needs need to be addressed thoroughly in order to produce peak power.
Thanks again for Sunday Osh and I will see you in a few days.
