Man I would love to do this drive!
I have driven 101 basically from San Diego to Seattle, but there is nothing like that drive on it anywhere. There is an excellent road from SLO to I-5 (can't remember what it is called) and I used to ride Wildcat Canyon road at least once a month for several years...but to me, this road looks better.
My big bitch with gathering a bunch of cars and doing a big drive is that someone gets stupid. A small group is lots of fun, but bigger groups have issues.
Sometime this summer I am gonna do the drive called "the road to the sun" but I wanna do the whole camping and photography thing, and not haul ass through the twisties.
If you guys get this trip together, I just might come along and do this road instead.

Time to fix the bike...and the BMWs...
Heads up, have your radar detectors on, known MC roads are known speed traps.
This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.Comment

I know, or hope that you are joking about "taking" on the bikes. I've ridden this route on my MC's, one of which is also a BMW.
Take it easy, enjoy the scenery, and have fun.... not trying to preach, just a heads up, like the radar detector comment above.Comment

That is a LONG way to drive, just to get to the start of the drive will take like 3 hours. Whoever plans this might want to make it a weekend trip, like camp out somewhere before coming back down south.

The one I was talking about is in like Montana or something, near Mt. Rushmore...but yeah, like a 2 week trip from Seattle.
I might do this just as the wife and I do the final move to Seattle, like a "Last Stand" from Oregon.

Yeah, I would set up camp somewhere near one end, drive, then sleep.

Luke you mean the "going to the sun road" its in Glacier park in NW motnana, no where near rushmore thats a good 15 solid hours strait through form here. I live about a 1/2 hour dead west from glaciers west main gate.
There is no way to go fast and have any fun on that road its packed all the time, and in the middle of a reconstruct. I suggest you take one of the old school "jambers" tour buses as you can look at the scenery and enjoy the ride. You can get off at the top of logan pass and not have to circle for up to an hour waiting for a parking spot up there (there are not many) and get on a different one when you are ready to go back down.
also wait till at least the end of july if not into august to go, last year they did not open the road all the way over the top till July 1 an there was still 4-5 feet of snow on the ground at the top of logan, people were hiking in to down hill ski and snow board till almost august. With the pace of snow we are getting this winter there will be even more up there this year.
Take the time to make the hike to hidden lake from the visitors center at logan pass at least to the look out over the lake, nut you can continue to the lake its only about 3 miles down am back form the look out but its a long way down so its kinda a tough hike if you are outta shape
Get a few people together an let me know about a month ahead of time an I will try to get home for a little bit while you guys are in the area and I can show you guys some other cool things. You can spend 2 weeks alone in glacier I see something different every time I look at anything every time I go.
Here are a few shots that I have on this computer
the haze is smoke form the fires that year these I think are 06, I think I have some better ones on a different comp
hidden lake
down at the bottom by hidden lake looking up
Water fall going out of hidden lake
Wild goose island in the middle of st Marys lake on the east side of logan pass
Heavens peak
these two were taken last memorial day and it was kinda cold an hazy drizzly day
the view across Kintal lake to kintal peak, this is in the very NW corner of the park and takes 2 hours of gravel driving to even get to, these are right along the hiking trail its worth the drive to get to it.
small bay in Kintal lake on the west side 2 feet off the hiking trail.
