I may not make it down there in my e30 after today. I do believe that the engine is almost ready to let go.... But anyway, i still will come down there, i'll just ride down in my truck.

Oh no, time for a dohc swap? Or maybe a small block? I think you'll like my 49 chevy if you make it down, I may just have to get it out.

I got a fresh mild 350 on the stand here with nothing to put it in. So i may just end up putting it in there with a 5 speed. Or i thought about the M30 thats in my e28. Although this eta has me stumped as to what it is doing. After checking it out today i think the valve gides may just be shot. And just leaking off when it's sitting. But if i let it sit overnight, it just throws out alittle smoke at startup. But then if i let it sit for maybe 4-7 hours. It looks like i'm making a smoke screen!!!! I thought maybe the headgasket, but it don't run hot. Or maybe the rings. It has some blowby, but nothing alarming with this kind of miles. Plus it don't smoke coming down off of a hill and then hitting the gas at the bottom (like my 85eta was doing). So i'll more then likly run it till the motor quits.

But i'll be down either way.

Alright, I am a newb here but I am trying to source the rest of the parts I need for the e36 rack swap.

I am looking at the DIY thread, but I am not 100% sure everything will apply to my specific rack/car

              I have a 1988 325is (no airbag)

              So far I have:
              95 e36 M3 rack

What I am about to order from pelicanparts.com:

              stuff thats not listed:
              7/16 Bolt 2 Inches Long - - xxxxxxxxxxxx - - - - -x2 - - -$???
              LP PS Return Hoses - - - - - xxxxxxxxxxx - - - - - x2 - - -$14.50

I assume I can find those at home depot? Well, not the low pressure hose but the bolts.

tools that he lists in the DIY:

              3/8 Ratchet
              1/2 Ratchet
              3/8 Sockets = 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, 22mm
              1/2 Sockets = 17mm, 19mm, 22mm
              Open End Wrenches = 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm
              Hammer & Wooden Block
              Vice Grips
              Flat Head Screw Driver
              Table Vice
              Tape Measure
Hydraulic Jack & 2 Jack Stands
              Dremel

I assume you guys will have all that? I have a shitty dremel. but i dont have vice grips or a table vice
              Tbolt Division

All I'm saying dude is that bird law in this country...it's not governed by reason.

at least you have a complete set of sockets unlike someone I know that try to do a m50 swap with basic carpentry tools.

Tbolt, dont worry, I'm sure you will have more than enough parts. That being said, all I had when I swapped mine was the rack.. I pulled the e30 rack, moved the e30 steering knuckle up on the splined shaft about an inch, slapped the e36 rack in with three headbolt washers on each sides for spacers and popped it right onto the e30 knuckle. I even used the e36 tie rods, lined it up with a tape measure so it had just a bit of toe out, thing bites hard now. I'm pleased with it.

yea i agree with EtaSport. Real men can do without. when i did my rack swap i used a drill with some random bit ends that i got from home depot. all you will need is a vice and someone to hold.

                      alright cool

the vice is needed to modify the knuckle i assume?

also, is it essential I get the e36 HP line and reservoir?

yea, vice is the miracle tool. never know when it will come handy. you know i have an m50 so i had to use the e36 reservoir but i doubt you will need to. i dun think you need the e36 lines either. actually im pretty sure you dont need the lines. did you pull the rack from the yard or something?

i used e36 tie rods too. for simplicity. i need to replace them though because i stripped 1 of them when i was putting it back on :-(
