That is partially the reason for this thread (practice). The mid pipe was probably my second welding job with gas. The cats were bigger id than the pipes I was welding to. Plus I reran a few beads to make sure things seal. Yea I should have ground down and done it but it seals.

    Thanks for moving the thread.

    Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

It doesn't have to be a windstorm to have the gasses be blown away.

I just finished welding up a whole new rear support structure on a z3, outside. Wind matters.

pm me details. I can weld bends but I can't bend pipes. You can buy a premade U bend from mandrel bending solutions locally.

unless you are in a wind storm, gas will work great set the flow for between 12-15 psi and leave it.

arc welding is for building trailers, welding plumbing together and welding rebar.

you MIGHT be confusing it with TIG ( i doubt it though)

YOSHI, you need to sit down and do some welding ( lots of it) and figure out how to use your welder (adjusting it for different jobs) and just figure out how to push and drag the puddle. sorry dude, but your welds look like bird shit.
^Couldnt have said it better, I can lay down way nicer beads outside with gas vs. Inside with flux core wire.

Keep at it and youll be fine. Mainly you got to know what to look for example sound of the weld (like bacon frying on a sizzling on a frying pan) height, penitration etc. I thought my beads were decent when I first started and know I chuckle whenever i look back at my old welds.
