So i was in DC working around U & 14th st I think. Parked and as soon as I opened my door I saw a 2002 across the street. I was like oh wooord? I was running late so I ran to my meeting and on my way out I looked at the shops on that side of the street trying to figure out where the owner may work. Most of the doors I tried the places were closed so I was like F it. I went to Mcdonalds for a Mcdouble, rare, and ate in my car there. figured maybe he'd come out in the next 10-15min.
I threw my trash away and still no sign of the owner. It had some nice little aftermarket wheels but nothing loud. Could tell it was a practical DD. I was about to pull off when I had to adjust my clutch stop so i could shift better. I was about to pull off again then I said to myself, let me try something.
I wrote a little note telling the owner it was rare to see a 2002 not rusted and that i myself owned an 87 325is. I told him about our friday night college park meets and how were always down to meet enthusiasts. i wrote my cell on there, folded it, and put it under the windshield wiper

I thought I wouldnt hear from the guy but sure enough he called later in the evening. Dudley and I ended up having a great convo for about 25min about cars, repairs, the ppl we meet who have similar interests, and about vintage vineyards. It was my first time hearing of the NC event but it sounds like one of the best east coast events for old school beemers period.
All that said, its always a nice gesture complimenting ppl on their ride when u see a well kept one. Weather its an E30 or not I give ppl the thumbs up and the nod on the highway as I pass a well done car. (im usually goin much faster.lol) I saw an oold xjs last week and although i didnt like the design so much, I sure as hell dont see em often. And it looked MINT so I gave em the "A okay" hands. Turns out a woman was driving and out bursted a big 'ole smile and a nod.
Sometimes its worth getting off your throne of perfection to compliment someones hard work. Even if its not EXACTLY your style, they share a passion in cars just like you.
