Feeler for almost finished 1991 318is.

    Hello fellas,

I am posting this up as a feeler for my unfinished project to get an advice from fellow e30 nut jobs.

The car in question is 1991 318is 5-speed with 162K miles, Alpine/Black. I purchased it with a leaking headgasket, as a project car to work on when I was on breaks from school. Now, I have moved out and it is sitting in my parent's garage taking up space.

To my knowledge the car is pretty much finished to be road worthy, just need to address an idle problem (will be looking at it tonight - o2 sensor or AFM).

    Quick overview of things.
    Good:
    - Amazing interior condition, crack free dash, clean, never smoked in.
    - Clean title with a folder full of receipts.
    - Lots of new parts/services:
-- New gaskets (literally all new, from oil pan, to headgasket, to small ones like TB)
-- Head was cleaned/tested/machined at a BMW shop
    -- New radiator
    -- New clutch
-- New 4 rotors and front brake pads (less than 10miles on them)
-- New 88C thermostat and temp switch (less than 10miles on them)
-- Coolant flushed (less than 10miles on it)
-- New spark plugs (less than 10miles on them)
-- New rear license plate lights w/ bulbs
-- New large battery from e32/e34
-- Rust repair (floor pan holes, trunk battery/rear valence, license plate lights holes)
-- Fitted with an electric radiator fan from e36 m42, no more clutch fan
-- Completed "Mess Under the Intake"
-- Body is straight, no accidents
-- and many other small things here and there...

    Now the bad:
    -- driver's door's bottom has rusted through
-- needs both fenders (rusted through at the usual bottom section)
-- could use minor body work to fix small scratches and dings, and paint to finish it off (my plans were to repaint it)
-- components under the car have surface rust (NE car)

Rather than that, it pulls like a champ, tranny shifts smooth, LSD locks great. I have owned it for abour 3-4 years, always stored in garage and only driven around my parent's neighborhood (less than 100 miles total!). I am third owner; 2nd owner was also e30 enthusiast who had to get rid of it due to "wife said it has to go." This car needs obvious safety/emission inspection, but it can be driven away with no problems.

I will take and post pictures later tonight.

I am thinking of selling it for $2,500. What do you guys honestly think?

    Thanks,
    Ruskii

I couldn't stop by my parent's house last night, so the pictures will have to wait until this weekend :(

        Hello fellas,

Here is the link to Picasa web album with few pictures and a short video.

The pictures were taken after a quick rinse. Since the pictures, I reinstalled the IS trunk spoiler. Also, as you can see the fenders are busted (especially driver's side) -- I have 2 good fenders in the garage (one is brand new in box for the driver's side), both are in black color. Body trim, fog lights, Volvo lip, and wheel center caps are sitting in my garage, and will be included with the sale (not shown in the pictures).

I have fixed the idle problem with replacing AFM and ICV, video shows steady idle.

Exhaust appears to have a small leak and power steering started to make noise at random (pump or rack?).

Given the pros and cons, I think $2,000 would be a fair price. What do you guys think?

Wow looks clean besides the rust that needs to be issued. Glws. Kinda like mine.

Gosh I love 318is'. If it wasn't for that rust (and my total lack of space and $$$) I would be all over this.

that's actually pretty rust free in the sucky places. like the license plate bulbs and rear valence. fender needs to be replaced, ok, np. door probably needs to be sanded down and repainted. but those are a lot easier than redoing the lower rear valence, battery tray area, or license plate bulbs.

I actually have a coupe door that is rust free for whoever buys this.

Thanks guys. Yes the hard/sucky spots were taken care of: front floor pans, rear battery tray, rear valence, and the rear license plate bulbs.

It definitely needs some TLC which I am no longer able to provide :(

I am going to tinker with it untill it sells. I will provide updated pictures, as soon as I make some additional progress.
