Look at an old safty/emissions sheet. You should have one in a vehicle.

Pretty much everything, utah sucks like that. They check brakes, windshield, blinkers, wipers, tires, if you wiped your ass, mirrors, blah blah blah

If lucky, the E36 will die peacefully, in its natural habitat, and be given the prestigious honor of donating its parts to an E30

I called a shop earlier. It sounds like they visually check the outside lights, tires and windshield. For emissions i only asked about idle, and it needs to be below 1100 or 1200.

I just had this done on my shitty 940 volvo. basically you pay some chicken shit tech 17 dollars to make sure your lights work and your car stops when you press the brakes.

There is no emissions or engine related tests at all. My volvo has a CEL due to overboost... they didnt say a word about it. also my SRS light is on due to the airbag being faulty. they didnt care about that either.

i went to this privately owned shop in cedar city... i dont know where your at but im sure your car will pass no problem. Honestly being from cali there are some cars on the road in this state that would never be able to drive in CA lol

Salt Lake County will hassle for emmissions, as well as all the safety stuff. I actually prefer to go to a decent shop that will check things over pretty well, as I appreciate getting another set of eyes looking at things different than my own. If you had a ball join going bad, wouldn't you like to know before it breaks and costs you real money?
Emissions can be a hassle. My MR2 Turbo passes with the help of a test exhaust (has a catalytic converter) that comes off as soon as it passes. They didn't notice that the EGR system was disconnected though. YMMV

inspection is the same state-wide. Couties set their own requirements for emissions testing. Salt lake county is the most strict and tests emmisions under load on a dyno at idle and ~2500rpm.
