i will spend most of my time in grand junction. i think its pretty flat there, BUT, i will always want to be able to go into the mountains for a free weekend.

Just to clear it up, I am in no way getting rid of my e30 vert. that will stay here at home, in a garage hopefully. so the fun, summer e30 is always there.
i just dont think it would suit me well in CO.

    Now for a second car.
i need something to drive while there. great subaru info up there. it seems like that or a jeep, or a cheap ix, is the way to go..

do you all recommend buying one there, or getting something and driving it there?

Subarus are beast, and a dime a dozen out here.

Jeeps are way overpriced out here, I'd suggest finding one in texas, new mexico, or arizona where prices aren't always retardedly inflated.

an ix would kick ass. wherever you can find one cheap with no rust (hahaha) is a good place to find one. Also if you find one, let me know and i'll go look at it for you. ;) lol

Looking for a clean e30 shell for a project.

For a Subaru, buy here, you won't believe how many there are around here.

Jeeps are not overpriced here, imo. There are just as many Jeeps as subarus. Just wait for a week or so and you will find one. My friend got his selec-trac XJ for 1500 and runs like a tank on and off road.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

i saw several solid looking ~120k miles subaru wagons, for around 3-5k

this seems pretty possible. are these things generally bombproof up to around 200k ?? what major problems will i need to address if i get one with over 100k miles on it?

Yup. If you get a 2.5L car, make sure its head gaskets are in good shape. A PPI from a subaru shop will know how to determine if they're good or not, so it's well worth the money IMO.

The 2.5 head gaskets are also far less likely to blow if you properly warm the car up before romping on it (<3000rpm for 5+ mins till temp gauge reads warm). Or get a 2.2 and not worry about it.

If I remember right, the motor is non-interference, so a TBelt snap won't really wreck your day. I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.

I read that they are all interference if you are looking for 96+. They change was a rather long time ago. Just do searching. It is not hard to find one that just had the timing belt and head gaskets done. My mother is in the process on buying one and trust me, there are thousands to pick from.

Yeah - This thread actualy has me thinking about a simply suby beater.

There are many more cars here to choose from, but IMHO prices are better elsewhere.

True, but paying 1k more for a car with service history and recent service is worth it to some people. Heck, I have been finding a ton of one-owner cars for my mother as well. The shear volume of subarus is crazy.

If all subarus had 2 more cylinders and weren't fugly then I would be all over them. Maybe a 2.5 RS with an EZ30R.....
