Detailing for 2011! Please stay on-topic

The weather is getting nicer and so your car must reflect it. It's not an option and you're a grungy hippy if you leave your car as is. Sorry, but it is what it is. I can help though. I detail like a BOSS and make things shiny... yo. K. I'm good, David can attest to it as can others who have seen my work. I'm going to have some free time between school coming to a close and work picking up for the summer. So, I want to generate interest now, get some feedback and maybe do some scheduling / quoting. This way I can arrange schoolwork / work around detailing. I get paid, you get a purdy car protected from the elements, win win. Economy at it's finest.

I'm also planning on updating this thread as the season progresses. David's going to post his e30, I'll post pics and

First one that I took pics of (I don't usually take pics during the process but I can start). It's a '68 (I BELIEVE, I could be wrong) Cutlass. Big block, immaculate, was fun... Spent like 32 hours on it. /crappy iPhone pics

For anyone curious, Ben detailed my E30 last year about this time. Was an AMAZING job....pics are below.

The car is a 89 325i with 261k on it. I'm owner number 7 or 8, the car has over 50k of track miles/hard use before I got it, and has the original outside-weathered paint. Which is why the transformation is all the more impressive.

Anyway, on to the pics! Thanks are to Ben again for an amazing job. Pay close attention to the quality of the reflections on the paint....the car is like a deep mirror.

This one looks weird because I was playing with the polarizer. I kinda like how it came out though!

And finally, the money shot: the hood.

Guys, get Ben/Bishop to detail your cars. You won't regret it!

What, exactly, does detailing entail? Just out of curiosity...

Pretty much anything as basic as a hand wash and dry, interior vaccuum, wipe down etc. Im not a big fan of the lesser stuff though. I focus mainly on the big jobs which usually involves polishing the paint, applying wax or sealant, cleaning interiors, carpet cleaning, etc. A full-detail would be a hand wash, clay, hand wash. Assess paint condition and decide how many polishing steps are required. 1 removes light imperfections, 3 for really neglected cars. 2 stages are typical and reveal amazing results (Cutlass I posted was 2 steps, 3 in some places). Another wash or simple wipe down followed by wax, sealant, or both. Clean glass, treat glass (like RainX but more durable), then on to interior. Wipe downs, vacuum, etc. Whatever might be needed that I am equipped to do. Can polish chrome such as exhaust tips, clean engine bays. Dress plastics all around and inside car, including engine bay, clean wheels, tires, etc. Etc. There's a lot that can be done. If the car has the proper potential from the get go and I am paid the right amount and have enough time with it, the car or whatever can end up in showroom condition.
