Pretty much all 89+ M20 cars that I've been in run maybe 1/3 from cold on the temp gauge. The radiator is the same as the E36 M3's radiator, and is way oversized for the m20. They all run silly cold.

I get 26mpg with a 4.10 LSD, and I've replaced the thermo already, no change. Shit just runs cool. The radiator is HUGE for a 2.5L 6cyl imo.

if your engine is running cold, it's very likely the thermo is stuck open...

which means you're getting shitty gas mileage. Change that isht out!! (it's sooo easy:))

Mine is the same way, but it's my thermostat stuck open (I think)...

I need to get back into school just to go play with 60in wheelbase racecars.

The octane isn't so much the issue, if you run lower octane the car will just pull timing. Mini owners complain about carbon buildup because they're too dumb to redline the motor so that it self-cleans.

It's funny, but motors that get beat on hard (when up to temp and other maintenance issues are looked after) tend to last longer and better than ones that were pansied about.

The M20 scares me to redline it. It's loud.

And what do you mean?! If I buy shitty low-octane gas I can save 3 ENTIRE DOLLARS on gas!

haha. If I didn't have this one paid for already I sure would be. Been rethinking the doc and don't really see a reason why I need one, I want an MBA down the road more anyway.
