K, revised: unless I'm dealing with shipping ASTs back for a refund, I should be there.Comment

lulz.
According to Vorshlag I can't even return them for a refund since they're "used." Think about that though, how the hell would I know they didn't work just by looking at them? 30 miles is barely used at all. They're going to see if AST will buy them back, but I'm not holding my breath. Color me very unimpressed.
Expensive useless fucking paperweights.Comment

Lots of guys do the EG33 (H6, basically a six cyl EJ22) for airplanes.
The EJ22 has no longevity and reliability issues. EJ25, different story, but you can't kill an EJ22.Comment

I'd rather do a turbo 4 than an H6 for an airplane. But yeah, that thought had crossed my mind too.
Longevity and reliability issues in an airplane are much different than a car. Think about running your car at whatever RPM makes the most HP (usually pretty high) for all of it's life, with many 4-6 hour stints if not longer... that's a lot of wear and tear (and why engine life is calculated in hours, not miles). Also, getting oil to the critical components of the engine during different phases of flight isn't so simple for a car engine designed to be driven on flat-ish land (no 30~45 degree bank turns, etc).

Right, and there's a reason that the EG33 or EJ22 are used for airplanes pretty frequently.I'd rather do a turbo 4 than an H6 for an airplane. But yeah, that thought had crossed my mind too.

Not disagreeing, just saying, if I can't kill an EJ22 by redlining it for years, it won't die in an airplane. It is not a stressed motor. For the turbo one...ask Preston/AJ/Brendan/Diego or better yet Kellie, I haven't researched it enough to make any judgement.Comment

If you are banked 30-45 degrees in an airplane, the local acceleration is still straight down through the floor if the pilot does it right, as Bob Hoover demonstrated:
At any rate, it is a lot harder to pull over to the side of the road in an airplane and poke around under the hood!

Depends on whether you are turning, or just banked... But yeah, not something you can really tinker around with until you get it right. If you are banked 30-45 degrees in an airplane, the local acceleration is still straight down through the floor if the pilot does it right, as Bob Hoover demonstrated:
