Yea. Pikes Peak. Awesomeness. June 26th. CO Springs (at Pikes Peak, in case you didn't know).
Hillclimb. Loud noises. Fast cars. Chevy 350s. SCR Performance cars. Val's car. Bill Caswell.
I'm not sure if anyone has planned anything as far as Saturday night/early Sunday lodging, or 4 packs just yet. This should be discussed.
The best viewing spot that I'm aware of is Devil's Playground, at 12,800 feet or thereabouts. You have an amazing vantage point of the track, great acoustics, and cars come really close by to the spectators.
Weather is incredibly unpredictable. It's a 14er, so the weather does go from sunny to balls-cold to snowing to raining to hailing to fog to sun to thunderstorms, so be prepared. Also, altitude ain't nothing to fuck with, so plan accordingly.
The road up to Devil's Playground (aka the only road) opens at 4am and closes at 6am (to DP, to Crystal Reservoir it is open till 8am). Race starts at 9am. You will be stuck at whatever vantage point you choose until the race is over. This is a hillclimb, and there is obviously only ONE road up and down, and racecars take priority because racecar. If you can't be on a mountain all day, don't go.
This event is truly spectacular and awesome, and should be on everyone's bucket list. You don't want to miss this. Price for entry per person is $45 on race day, $40 before. If you get in on a four-pack of tickets, it drops to about $32.50 per person.
Who wants to go? I know Clark, myself, Garrett, and a bunch of CUSCC folks are in.
