And "novelty" does run out very quickly, but having a fast car that performs is longer lasting. And what is the aftermarket support on the Abarth? Prob next to nil, compared to the E36 M3.
American version will have over 170 turbocharged, multi-air, hp around 2,300 pounds. Yeah, awesome.

      a) turbo-- doesn't loose as much power up here as the M3 does.

secondly, it's a brand new car, I think ~$25-30k. Pretty well priced for its performance/features/luxury/brand new car warranty.

The M3 will likely be the better performing car at half the cost, more practical, roomier, handle better, and has better aftermarket support....but who cares?

Not everyone is looking for a sports/race car or even a moddable car as a DD, some folks just want a fun sporty reliable car with a warranty. I'd rock one. Would the M3 beat it around a track? Undoubtedly. Does that matter? Not really.

          haha. forgot b.

The Abarth hate in here is amusing. Cars have come a loooooooong way since the E30 and E36 in terms of just about everything.

            What Abarth hate?

well, other than my "sucking" statement, which I guess I should disclaim now that I was just kidding... ;)

Last quote isn't hate, it is an honest comparison. Novelty in general runs out fast, nothing "hate-like" about that. Also, I would venture to guess it's true that the E36 M3 has greater aftermarket support.

having never driven the Abarth and having rarely driven an E36 M3, while using euro-spec figures.

"honest" comparison as in "i don't know anything about the brand spanking new abarth but it can't be as good as a 16 year old BMW"

I don't care enough and certainly don't know enough to possibly hate on an Abarth. It's like me having strong opinions on a certain football player. I know nothing of football and also don't care. My honest comparison was just me honestly speculating based on what I do know. (or thought I knew).

                    point is, no hate here.

So, Brad, I was just kidding when I said the Abarth will suck. I really have no idea. Sorry of I got the wrong idea across.

I probably can't go to another one until September. I can try to make it to one next month if someone sets it up.

I think it is the abarth esse esse version that is 170 hp, not just the American version.

In other news, I am talking with critter about buying his M3.

The american version is nearly completely different, which is what makes it so attractive. It will have 170-175hp instead of the base euro 130 something and a much, much stiffer frame, and a better rear suspension. This is all for US safety standards and to compete with the mini cooper better.
