    14 Hour Go Kart Race

Hey guys. I'm back from the dead, at least temporarily. It's been a fucking hectic summer.

Last weekend I did a 14 hour go kart race. It was at Summit Point Raceway on the old auto cross circuit (the one that creeping death drove on). Now it's called the Washington Circuit, a proper karting track.

Full story is on my blog here:

For the majority of the last ten years the second weekend in October has always been a special weekend. It's when the 24 Hours of Moab mount...

Video of my brother driving the last stint here. Its much better in YouTube on wide screen.

I can only say that 14 hours of karting and support was a unique brand of pain. The intensity was awesome, much higher than any mountain bike race or hang gliding comp I've done.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

My dads company took us all out to the kart track at njmp and we did this tag team enduro race that was an hour, had the fastest lap but that shit whopped my ass, my arms were so sore.

SO in if we get a team together, full days at IMI (if you have your own kart) are $35.

It was so much fun! I've looked for something similar in our area and haven't found anything yet. Maybe the track in Grand Junction? Google endurance karting, the second place team was sponsored by them. There is a 24 hour race in May in NC that looks sick, but it's during my spring comp :-(

sounds like that's not a shifter? what kind of kart is it?

I get tired after a 10 or 20 minute session in the rental karts, can't imagine 14 hours of running! How many to a team?

It's a single speed RX7. We had four people on our team. My longest stint was 2 hours. It took a lot of proactivity to keep the pain to a minimum. Moving the pedals all rgr way forward, stretching your legs on the straights, and super loose wheel grip.

Do they allow home-built karts that you know of?
